Kingman AZ hosted Mohave County’s first Rodeo in September 1919, according to the “Mohave County Miner and Our Mineral Wealth” newspaper. Several hundred “Cowmen and their families” from all over Mohave County, Coqonino and Yavapai Counties flooded into Kingman, making the city resemble one of the old “wild west towns.” Special Events included a parade, men’s and women’s horse races down Front Street (now known as Andy Devine Ave), a Labor Day dance and a goat roping contest. Thirty-eight teams took part in a burro roping contest that turned out to be one of the most popular Kingman AZ events.
